GNR Roofing Services were commissioned to undertake a significant restoration and re-roofing project at All Hallows Church in Leeds, a cherished community landmark known for its unique architectural character and historical significance. The project required a sensitive yet modern approach to maintain the building’s heritage while upgrading its performance and durability.
Scope of Work
1. Removal of Existing Roof Covering
The first stage of the project involved the careful removal of the existing concrete tile roofing system. These concrete tiles, although serviceable for many decades, had begun to deteriorate and were no longer providing adequate weatherproofing or thermal performance. Additionally, they were not in keeping with the aesthetic or material standards appropriate for a building of this nature.
2. Installation of Natural Zinc Roof
In place of the concrete tiles, GNR Roofing installed a high-quality natural zinc roof covering. This not only transformed the external appearance of the church, lending it a sleek, contemporary look that still complements the historic structure, but also provided a robust, long-life solution with excellent weather resistance and low maintenance requirements.
Zinc is a sustainable material, recyclable and long-lasting, offering a lifespan of 80 to 100 years. Its self-healing properties also help maintain a clean appearance over time, and it weathers attractively, developing a protective patina that enhances both aesthetics and performance.
3. Thermal Efficiency Upgrade Using Pavotextil P Insulation
A major objective of the refurbishment was to significantly improve the thermal efficiency of the church building, which had previously suffered from considerable heat loss due to outdated insulation.
GNR Roofing incorporated Pavotextil P, a high-performance, non-combustible textile-based insulation material known for its excellent thermal properties and sustainability credentials. This innovative insulation solution was installed beneath the new zinc roof covering, contributing to:
Outcome
The completed project has revitalized the roof of All Hallows Church, preserving its architectural integrity while introducing cutting-edge materials and methods. The transformation from concrete tiles to natural zinc has improved the church’s visual appeal, longevity, and sustainability. Furthermore, the integration of Pavotextil P insulation has ensured that the building now meets modern thermal performance standards, supporting the church’s role as a warm, welcoming community space for years to come.
